HIT Radio 1550 WHIT knows small business owners make huge contributions to our communities...and at the same time, take big risks in order to start and keep their companies running. Now is the time for nominations! Think of your favorite small business and nominate it or, if you own a business, nominate yourself. Nominations of minority and women-owned firms are encouraged as well as businesses in Madison and other parts of Dane County. Nominate here!! HIT Radio 1550 WHIT and its parent company Mid-West Family Broadcasting are proud to have sponsored the Dane County Small Business Awards for many years.
Donate Your "Stuff" and Help St. Vincent de Paul
HIT Radio 1550 WHIT encourages you to donate your gently used clothing, furniture and household items to St. Vincent de Paul. Money from sales at SVDP's five area thrift stores (locations here) support their services to those in need, including operation of Dane County's busiest food pantry. If you can't drop off the items, they do offer free home pick-up.
Both donating to and buying from your favorite thrift store are easy ways to embrace the recycle-reuse-reduce lifestyle!
Meals on Wheels Volunteers Needed
HIT Radio 1550 WHIT suggests that if you have extra time, volunteer for Meals on Wheels deliveries through Independent Living (IL). They especially need help on Madison's north and east sides. It only takes an hour to volunteer and can possibly be done on your way home from work. In addition, you can volunteer for as little as once a week or whenever you can fit it into your schedule. It's a neat opportunity to do something with co-workers/friends or with your kids/grandkids as a way to give back.
Or, if Meals on Wheels isn't quite what you're looking to do, there are many volunteer opportunities to help seniors stay independent. Go to Independent Living's website or call (608) 274-7900 for more info. |
